Iterated local search heuristic for the team orienteering problem with time windows

چکیده

Tourists have the difficult task to schedule their holiday activities in such a way that they enjoy their holiday as much as possible, while keeping the opening times and exact locations of attractions in mind. This task can be formulated as the team orienteering problem with time windows (TOPTW). The TOPTW uses a list of locations as input, together with their opening times and appreciation scores. The goal of the TOPTW is to maximize the collected appreciation scores by visiting locations, while considering the opening times and the travel times within locations. This thesis is a replication of earlier research done by Vansteenwegen et al. [13]. Their iterated local search (ILS) heuristic is implemented by us and the results are compared and certain claims made by them are verified. Our contribution is to make adjustments to the original heuristic in order to improve the results. Due to possible interpretation or implementation errors, the total score of our replication was 1.52% lower than the total score of Vansteenwegen et al. However, the total score of the best variant made by us is 0.28% higher than theirs, as the score of 75 test instances (out of 224) was improved. For 32 test instances the score of the best variant is higher than the best-known result until 2009.

Solving multi-objective team orienteering problem with time windows using adjustment iterated local search

One of the problems tourism faces is how to make itineraries more effective and efficient. This research has solved the routing problem with the objective of maximizing the score and minimizing the time needed for the tourist’s itinerary. Maximizing the score means collecting a maximum of various kinds of score from each destination that is visited. The profits differ according to whether those...

Cluster-Based Heuristics for the Team Orienteering Problem with Time Windows

The Team Orienteering Problem with Time Windows (TOPTW) deals with deriving a number of tours comprising a subset of candidate nodes (each associated with a “profit” value and a visiting time window) so as to maximize the overall “profit”, while respecting a specified time span. TOPTW has been used as a reference model for the Tourist Trip Design Problem (TTDP) in order to derive near-optimal m...

Well-tuned algorithms for the Team Orienteering Problem with Time Windows

The Team Orienteering Problem with Time Windows (TOPTW) is the extension of the Orienteering Problem (OP) where each node is limited by a predefined time window during which the service has to start. The objective of the TOPTW is to maximize the total collected score by visiting a set of nodes with a limited number of paths. We propose two algorithms, Iterated Local Search and a hybridization o...

An ILS Algorithm for the Team Orienteering Problem with Variable Profit

The Orienteering Problem (OP) is a routing problem that has numerous applications in various fields such as logistics and tourism. The objective is to determine a subset of nodes to visit so that the total collected score is maximized and a given time budget is not exceeded. The extensive application of OP has led to many different variants, including the Team Orienteering Problem (TOP) and the...

Well-Tuned ILS for Extended Team Orienteering Problem with Time Windows

The Team Orienteering Problem with Time Windows (TOPTW) is the extension of the Team Orienteering Problem (TOP) by incorporating the time window constraints. Given a set of nodes including their scores, service times and time windows, the goal is to maximize the total of scores collected by a fixed number of routes considering a predefined time window during which the service has to start. In t...
